Katie and Pete and their Markings

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

peter_andre_offbeatink1Peter Andre, erstwhile musician, and Katie Price aka Jordan, she of the big bosoms. You have probably heard they split up, as has most of the breathing world. The interesting thing about the split has been how different these two people seem to be. It makes you wonder what brought them together in the first place. Then you hear something one of Jordan’s friends said to the press last month and the penny drops, or clangs. We are told that a source close to Jordan has said that all she cares about is making sure she stays more famous than Pete. She sees her surgery plans (oh, yes, Jordan is planning her sixth boob job) as a big two fingers up to Pete. She’ll do anything to annoy him. ”
All this is pretty odd when you think they were so committed to each other that not only did Pete adopt Katie’s son but they went on to have two more babies katie_offbeatink1together AND had each other’s names permanently inked on their bodies. Katie’s name is on Pete’s wedding finger while Pete’s is on Katie’s inner wrist. Or it was, until she had a big black ‘X’ tattooed over it while on holiday in Ibiza recently.
‘I’ve seen the pictures of Kate’s “Pete” tattoo with a cross through it,’ Pete wrote in his new diary. ‘I really don’t have much to say about it. I married Katie Price, not Jordan, but Katie Price left the building a long time ago… Nothing she can do can hurt me anymore and nothing she does surprises me.

‘In terms of my “Katie” tattoo, I’m sure I’ll have it removed at some point,’ he writes. ‘But it’s really not a priority at the moment.’

Katie Price, meanwhile, has banned Peter Andre’s name from her house. That should make for interesting conversations with their children… She has reportedly vowed to “destroy” her estranged husband after he walked out on her in May. In fairness to Pete, he has had his own role to play in the madness. He reportedly banned Katie from a birthday party for their youngest daughter, Princess Tiaamii, 2.

Peter, who was in Cyprus with the children visiting his mum while Jordan’s photos cavorting in Ibiza were plastered over the tabloids wrote: I still love Kate. If you get over someone in five weeks then you didn’t love them in the first place… Let’s not forget that there are far bigger problems in the world. But when you are in your own situation it feels like the biggest problem in the world.
Well said, Pete!!

Geoff Ostling, Heavily Tattooed Bear

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

geoff-ostling-offbeatinkWhat do an avid art lover, a passionately patriotic Australian, a retired history teacher and skin donation after death have in common? Ever heard of Geoff Ostling? He was awarded The Melbourne Cup of Tattooing for Best Overall Tattooed Male.

When I first saw a photo of this guy, I nearly fell off my seat. His gorgeous smile and beautiful skin would have been enough, but then to read his story and realise just what an unusual person he is made me grateful to have come across his name.
Now-retired history teacher Geoff Ostling, 65, has pledged to donate his full body (neck to ankle) skin to the National Gallery in Canberra. It has taken him decades to create his canvas. His partner in floral tattoo skin murals, for I can think of no other term to describe this work, is none other than tattoo artist de Medici. The work of art is entitled “All the flowers of a Sydney garden” and is a single piece of work.
The design incorporates over 60 individual flowers drawn from nature and not copied from a book or picture. Who else could possibly tolerate roses under his armpits and a “cornucopia of blue water lilies, orchids, and flowering gum sprawling across his belly and creeping up his backside”? He also has matching bear tattoos, shared with his long-term partner, and a ‘hidden’ penis rising proudly from his belly…

Geoff apparently wanted something unique, so he thought of recreating a garden of native Australian and imported plants which now inhabit this land. “To donate skin is not the most amazing thing in the world but the tattoos are revolutionary”, he says.
A Sydney taxidermist has already been put on alert to preserve Geoff’s skin when he dies. Ostling’s story was covered in an Australian documentary called ‘Anatomy’.

Now why could I not have had a history teacher like this?

The Next Generation of Tattooed Beckhams

Friday, August 21st, 2009

david_beckham_offbeatinkIt had to happen one day. Victoria and David Beckham are both well known aficionados of the tattoo art world. Both have several well advertised tattoos covered by the media world wide with David having recently added to his substantial collection of skin art. His latest tattoo is a ‘ring o’ roses’ on his left arm. Mrs Beckham has apparently expressed the opinion that this should be it now, that he has enough tattoos. Interesting then that in the same show where David revealed his son’s desires and wife’s opinions should be when Beckham also gave marriage advice to a couple on the same program with him. He said, “It (your wedding) is an amazing occasion, you have to spend as much time on that day together as it goes so quickly.” He also added, “And a few years into the marriage if you are lucky enough to have children your priorities are them, but you still have to make time for each other.” It is no secret that the Beckhams work hard at their relationship and are active, hands-on parents.
The couple have three sons ranging in age from 4 to 10. The 10-year-old, Brooklyn, is reported to have asked his father when he could have his first tattoo. Why the question surprised David, I could not tell you, but surprised he was, or is reported to have been… I would have thought that with both their parents so visibly supportive of the art, it would have been fairly obvious that their tots would consider it normal for them to follow suit.
Brooklyn’s question to his father is said to have been along the lines of: how old do I have to be to have my first tattoo? Note the word ‘first’ and recognise that this little man has a whole vista of tattoo art evolving in his mind for his own future.

David Beckham’s words back to his son were: ‘A lot older than you are now’. I wonder what Posh had to say about it…
